To kick-start, the construction work of Jewar Airport, the Uttar Pradesh Government has recently released the first installment of Rs 250 crore to start the land acquisition process. The orders for the same have been issued by civil aviation secretary Surya Pal Gangwar on October 20.
As per the order issued by the state Govt, the funds have been released following the issuance of notification under Section 11 of the Land Acquisition Act. So, in accordance with the notification, the Govt has released 10% of the total projected value i.e. Rs 250 crores.
In order to prevent any kind of financial escalation during the acquisition work, it is decided that the whole process will be done in specified deadlines. For this, the UP Govt has drafted a departmental manual which is to be strictly adhered by the district administration as well as the civil aviation department.
The order states, “The amount would rather not be used for any another purpose. Also, the amount would be deposited only under land acquisition head by GB Nagar DM and director (civil aviation). The state government should be informed about its use from time to time.”
A month back, UP CM Yogi Adityanath met with a delegation of farmers who agreed to give their land for the proposed Jewar International Airport. He said that the Govt will give full support, help the affected landowners and take care of the interest of their families by providing them better compensation and jobs. A total of 1,300-hectares of land needed to be acquired for the first phase of acquisition.
